I never thought a trip to South Dakota would be so cool. The people were cool, the kids were cool, and the dang town was just kewl!!!
Cut right out of the old Westerns, Belle Fourche is a pioneer town that even appeared in John Wayne movies.
The name Belle Fourche means “Grand Fork”. The town was named this because it was a major junction for cattle and cattlemen. The great cowboys would bring their cattle here to sell and/or have shipped to another yard for selling or stocking.
Many of the great families that created this industry are still there. and if you hang out in the local pubs at night you can see them! They are very fond of a good steak dinner and a chance to take their spouses out on the town to mix and socialize with other locals. It’s heartland America at its best!
The kids were great! I’ve never had a group that was so well behaved!! Great riders and very focused athletes. Good job everybody.
The track was pretty neat, carved into the hills of a quarry or gravel pit. Hard pack with all high bank turns. Tricky to teach on, but it gave us what we wanted none-the-less.
After three days of teaching MX in this historic town I felt like I made myself my own history!
Can’t wait to go back!!
